I took the first of two 3 hour classes to be able to rent this long arm machine at Sew Modern. Learning to long arm quilt was one of my goals for this year, and it's already becoming a reality!
You see, I have big plans for this stack of fabric.

I'm finally going to make a quilt for my bed. I picked up the fabrics the other week when I went to Sew Modern's launch party. I'd checked out Cherri House's City Quilts book from the library and was taken by her City Shops quilt. I knew right away that that was what I wanted for my bedroom. I've prewashed the fabrics and am ready to press and cut them this weekend at the LAMQG sew in. I'm hoping to get most of it cut out and at least a few blocks sewn up on Saturday. Any suggestions on how I should quilt this one? I'll be finishing my sliced coins quilt first and practicing with the long arm on that one before I work on this big queen-sized quilt. I'm nervous and excited about it all at the same time!
That's cool that your taking long arm quilting classes. I've been trying to get my Mom to learn for years now. She would save so much money if she quilted her own quilts! However, she enjoys designing and piecing the quilts together so much that she doesn't want to waste her time quilting.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I feel pretty lucky that this shop opened so close to my house with this brand new long arm machine. Hopefully I'll enjoy the quilting part as much as the piecing part. I completely understand your mom's thinking though.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric stack for your new quilt, it's gonna look great! I'll be interested to hear more about the long-arm quilting as you learn - like is it hard to control?
ReplyDeleteThat must have been fun! Was it hard to get a hang of?
ReplyDeleteLove your color palette for your quilt too! Can't wait to see the progress!
Beautiful Kona colors! Very cool about you meeting the Long Arm. I need to take the time to find one in my area. :)
